Comments:
After Fender’s acquisition of Gretsch Guitars, the Champion 600 was also redressed in Gretch cosmetics to become the Gretsch G5222 Electromatic amp.
I just replaced the stock speaker with a Jensen Mod 6 ceramic speaker, it sounds better than the stock one, but would like to hear Weber Alnico, if anyone cares to respond! Also, I changed out the stock tubes, with a NOS JAN Phillips 6V6GT and a NOS RCA 12ax7a, and all these mods made the amp way, way, better now.
I bought my Champion 600 in 2008 (about). I put in a switchable tone-stack bypass, which was downright transformative, no pun. I found a mod online back then for giving it some overdrive, it helped a lot too. For the icing, I put in an ALNICO Weber 8 inch. I’ve been eternally impressed ever since. Oh yeah, I took out the negative feedback loop too.
